What in blazes is "Godself"?

So the Pontificator and Donald D. Hook ask, a bit more moderately. As they say, it's a linguistic and theological abomination. Some of us have always known that. Their service is to briefly and profoundly explain why.

As further proof, Fr. Stephen Freeman calls our attention to an article informing us that, according to some Church of England clerics, using masculine pronouns for God encourages wife-beating. (Such clerics would never of course say that using feminine pronouns for God encourages husband-beating; only violent husbands encourage husband-beating, you see.) Freeman's reaction: "The Brave New World is crashing down upon us. Someone needs to send for the boys at Monty Python because it’s all become too silly.”

Indeed.
